Animal Assisted Therapy

Meet Mozzie

Being in the presence of another living animal has been shown to reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety and assist in emotion regulation. Humans are genetically wired to want to be around nature and other living organisms; we have evolved to exist with other animals, with positive outcomes work on both sides.

Being around animals has been shown to increase serotonin and oxytocin; facilitating a “bottom-up” approach in working with individuals who have experienced trauma. Incorporating animals into psychological therapy supports social skill capacity by modelling trust, safety and healthy relationships (the most important aspect of therapeutic assistance).

Mozzie will be in the office with us more often than not. He is always keen to meet a new friend and to give and receive cuddles and affection.
